I’ve been an Austin family photographer (although willing to travel world-wide!) for almost as long as I’ve been a wedding photographer. And if you’ve been paying attention, that’s 10 years. A decade. A long time in one career these days. 😉

When I first started photographing weddings I didn’t think I would like family portraits. All of the excitement of wedding day would be missing. The fast-paced, once-in-a-lifetime, feeling complete with beautiful gowns and amazing florals, love all around us.

Love.

It turns out love is the thing I want to capture most. When my couples started having kids I’m naturally fielding the question of “do you also photograph families?”. I tried it and thought, okay, I think I like this. Next, I want to figure out the style that makes me happy. I like a few posed portraits that look good above the fire place, sure. But the heart of a family is the love, the relationship. I want to capture hugs, kisses, running into each other’s arms, cuddling, twirling with happiness. Next, I set out to convince other people that’s what we could be doing together. We can have FUN. We can represent the playfulness and loving spirit of your daily lives.

I’m fortunate to find families over and over again who treasure that exact same vibe. They want their memories to look just like they feel.

Next up, meet the Stephens Family. Dad is serving our country, mom is holding it down making amazing cakes and now crushing the real estate game as well.

Here’s the most recent round of birthday cakes Kelly made for us (she does the cookies as well!). Anthony wanted a Super Mario themed cake, and she paid homage to his favorite character, Bowser, on the top tier. He was Bowser for Halloween, and if you look back through my instagram you’ll see he’s always choosing the bad guy (Darth Vader, Jango Fett, Kylo Ren) – when do I get worried?!

Allie has the pretty unicorn cake. Have to include the back of this one so you can see the swirling colors on the unicorn hair. And those flowers on the mane are sugar. Love Kelly for thinking of all the special little details. Both kids’ reactions were PRICELESS. They love having a say in what their cakes are and then seeing where Kelly’s vision will take us!
